Coronation Street Roy Cropper legend barred by security from entering studios in awkward moment
David Neilson has been part of Coronation Street for nearly 30 years, so you can imagine his shock when the security on set failed to recognise him.
The Roy Cropper actor, 75, reportedly pressed the buzzer and said: ‘Roy Cropper. I’m on the show.’
The Sun claims that the soap veteran paused at the gates, and was approached by a fan asking him for an autograph.
The actor agreed and asked the staff: ‘Why do you think I’m standing here signing these? Why do you think?’
Poor Roy has really been through it this year, after being arrested for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
When Lauren went missing, Roy was the last person to see her alive, and after he cleaned up her flat as a favour to Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman), it left him as the prime suspect for her murder.
Thankfully, Lauren has since been found alive, officially clearing Roy’s name. When she came to apologise, he was very receptive, and pointed out that she was also a victim in this situation.
Earlier this week, the ITV soap delivered another plot twist that allowed us to learn Lauren was actually alive. In an instalment that revealed more about Lauren and Joel’s toxic relationship, it was established that Joel had been manipulating Lauren since September last year, when they first met.
Having spent months being targeted with abuse due to the allegations against him, Roy recently decided that it was time to wave Weatherfield goodbye for a while.
However, he wasn’t going to leave without saying goodbye to Carla, who has also had a stressful few months.
When he explained that he planned to visit ex Cathy in Scarborough, Carla decided that she wanted to come too, and she wasn’t taking no for an answer.
Offering to give Roy a lift to save him getting the train, she announced that she would book herself into a hotel with a spa, for a weekend of R&R.
