Coronation Street scene foreshadows death for Joel Deering as Ed and Ronnie Bailey take action

Joel's downfall is looming after he was charged for his crimes against Lauren Bolton but one scene during this Monday's trip to Corrie seemed to hint at an on-screen death.

Death may be the only retribution allowed for Joel Deering as one scene shared with brothers Ronnie and Ed Bailey confirmed he had “a death wish.”

After making his Coronation Street debut as a duty solicitor, the perfect love interest for fan favourite Dee-Dee Bailey, the villain played by Calum Lill was unmasked as Lauren Bolton’s tormentor and the reason she vanished in the first place.

Fallen from grace and dumped by a devastated Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) who is desperate to take him down and have him thrown behind bars, Joel was charged with drugging Lauren (Cait Fitton) and harming her unborn son Frankie after DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) found undeniable evidence against him with her daughter Betsy’s help.

This Monday (September 23, 2024), however, Joel wasn’t repentant as he pursued Dee-Dee on the cobbles with their wedding rings, begging her for another chance before her father Ed and uncle Ronnie (Trevor Michael Georges and Vinta Morgan) rushed out of the Rovers to help her.

Confronted by both men, Joel was told he must have a “death wish” to have the audacity to approach Dee-Dee after the breakdown of their relationship and engagement – which he bluntly confirmed by retorting: “spot on.”

Joel was eventually threatened away by all three Baileys, but Ed and Ronnie later decided to make sure he would never try his luck again by intimidating him in a bid to push him to act out and get arrested.

Unfortunately, when Ed confronted Joel at the precinct, the solicitor was quick to realise it was all a ploy, which left Ronnie in a blind rage as he grabbed Joel and threw him against a wall, before letting him go.

However, the three men’s confrontation has since launched a new theory – could Ronnie and Ed be the ones to kill and finally free the cobbles from Joel’s sinister influence? Multiple characters have teamed up to take Joel down, including Dee-Dee, Lisa Swain, Lauren and Ellie, another one of his victims who told the detective everything she went through, confirming Lauren was not Joel’s first victim.

Speaking about his upcoming exit from the Manchester-based programme in August, 2024, Calum Lill said: “It’s bittersweet. To know that I’m going to have to leave eventually is really sad. The people that I work with – cast and crew – are incredible. But I’ve been given an amazing, chunky story to sink my teeth into and I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

He then added: “I’ve been at Corrie for a year now and it’s the nicest place to work. Everyone is so committed to taking the show to the next level and they put so much hard work into so many amazing storylines that they’ve got going on. Everyone’s working so hard and working together to produce something of quality, that people can sit down and enjoy.”
