The prospect of assisted dying is a difficult subject for Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and his family in Coronation Street.

A few weeks ago, Paul told Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) that he would like help with ending his life when the time comes. The beloved character, who has MND, said he doesn’t want to get to a point where he feels like a ‘hostage inside his own body’, and wants to remain in control of his own decisions till the very end.

During a trip away from Weatherfield with Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell), Paul opened up about the assisted dying plan again after a panicked Billy wondered where he had gone.

After the initial shock, Bernie and Gemma also agreed to support Paul, but will this be the case where Summer (Harriet Bibby) is concerned?

In this new video, Summer confronts Billy about trying to make decisions on behalf of Paul.

She believes it’s wrong, but a stressed Billy says that he cannot decide for his husband and alludes to the assisted dying plan.

Aware something else is going on, Summer presses Billy, so he confesses that when things get too far along for Paul, he wants to ‘end things on his own terms’.

Summer is stunned, but what will she say next?

Will she support Paul’s decision?

‘Even though we know it isn’t real, knowing that Pete’s time to show is now coming to an end, there is a deep sadness in that’, Daniel Brocklebank explained to Metro.co.uk last year, discussing this storyline.

‘I mean, Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie, she can’t keep up bloody eyes dry at all!

‘She sees Pete limping onto the set and she’s welling up. We’re grieving Peter leaving, Peter’s not dying but the emotions are genuine.’
