Coronation Street spoilers: Abi targeted with disgusting abuse as she gets bad news about porn videos
Recently in Coronation Street, Abi Webster (Sally Carman) discovered someone had created deepfake videos of her and posted them online.
When Abi first realised what was going on, she had no idea it wasn’t even real and assumed it was taken from the period in her life when she used to take drugs.
The video soon began to appear on more and more sites, leaving Abi even more distressed.
After speaking to police, Abi discovered even more copies of the video had been posted online, but soon noticed something important: The woman in the video wasn’t her.
She pointed out to Kevin (Michael Le Vell) that, although the woman had her face, she also had tattoos that Abi didn’t have.
It was then that she realised that the videos were deepfakes, which is defined as ‘synthetic media that have been digitally manipulated to replace one person’s likeness convincingly with that of another’.
In upcoming episodes, Abi tells Kevin that her online troll has reposted one of the deep fake videos.
When Craig (Colson Smith) arrives, he reveals that they’re no nearer to knowing who posted the fake videos, and it might be a good idea to hire a lawyer.
As she ponders over the idea, Abi then faces two lads who call at the garage and start to make lewd remarks about her.
Left in despair, things go from bad to worse when the twins’ adopted mother cancels their visit to see Abi.
Determined to try and get the videos taken down, Kevin and Abi discover the online management company will charge £5k per month to remove the videos.
At a dead end, Kevin and Abi wonder what to do next, knowing hiring a professional is simply unaffordable.
Will this nightmare ever be over?
