Tracy McDonald (Kate Ford) is to devastate her friends and family in Coronation Street next week as she makes the decision to leave for pastures new.

The iconic character, who has been played by Kate Ford since 2002, has been engaging in a steamy affair with former footballer Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn) for months, which has left her husband Steve (Simon Gregson) devastated.

Having employed him under his new profession as a painter and decorator, Tracy seized the opportunity to jump into bed with her hubby’s hero whilst he was on a holiday in France.

The adultery was exposed when Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) caught them in the act, and after learning that Steve had proposed a vow renewal, was forced to spill to his best mate.

After hearing through the grapevine that Tommy was planning to move to Spain to work as an assistant coach, Steve planned to get his own back and blurted it out in front of all of the Rovers regulars.

The move devastated Tracy, who was planning a long time future with her new beau.

During a lunch at the bistro, she told him that their fling was over and has refused to speak to him since.

However, in upcoming scenes, that all looks set to change as the Street stalwart looks set to leave, a whopping 47 years on from the her first appearance.

The daughter of Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) and Ray Langton (Neville Buswell), Tracy has seen a fair share of drama during her time in the ITV soap including kidney failure and murdering boyfriend Charlie Stubbs (Bill Ward) with an ornament.

But following her latest setback, she will contemplate a new life on the other side of Europe.

When Steve finds a letter from Tommy inviting her to move to Spain with him, he hides it away.

After confessing to daughter Amy (Elle Mulvaney) that she misses having a man in her life, Tracy heads home with a plan to rebuild her marriage, assuring Steve that she’s made a stupid mistake and won’t betray him again.

He’s over the moon to reconcile, but at the corner shop, Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) is less than impressed and refuses to serve him a celebratory bottle of wine.

Suggesting they go to the pub instead, Steve takes the opportunity to burn the letter before she can read it – but it’s seemingly too late.

Later in the week, having spoken to Tommy, Tracy packs her bags at No. 1 and tells her family she’s going to miss them.

During a farewell drink, poor Steve hides behind his newspaper on the other side of the bar.

Will she have a last minute change of heart at the airport?
