Coronation Street

Coronation Street spoilers: Double exit drama as two more residents face jail – and one is a show legend

Carla watches Bobby, who is being arrested by DS Swain in Corrie

Carla Connor (Alison King) and Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) find themselves on the wrong side of the law in upcoming Coronation Street episodes as the mystery of what happened to Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) is set to reach its dramatic conclusion.

Roy Cropper (David Neilson) is currently remanded in custody, suspected of killing Lauren who disappeared from her flat in February. Roy was the last person to see her and, because he later cleaned her flat his behaviour was regarded as suspicious.

Many innocent interactions between him and Lauren came, in the police’s eyes, to seem suspicious in the light of her disappearance.

Lauren’s friend Bobby was initially one of those who thought Roy was guilty.

When he later realised he was mistaken he tried to make amends by making a false statement to the police in which he spoke about seeing an intruder at Lauren’s flat, wearing a balaclava and a dark, fur-trimmed coat.

Carla was furious at her nephew when he told her what he’d done, knowing that he was perverting the course of justice, but she agreed to go along with it – a decision that led to a big falling-out with Roy.

In upcoming episodes, DS Swain (Vicky Myers) asks Carla what made her fall out with Roy. Carla quickly shuts the conversation down as she knows how risky it could be for her and Bobby.

Swain is still suspicious and decides to ask Roy about his disagreement with Carla. She asks outright if it has anything to do with Bobby’s statement. It’s in Roy’s character to be honest no matter what the consequences, and soon after this visit DS Swain arrests Bobby on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Carla is obviously worried, particularly when Swain tells her that Bobby’s lies have ended up helping nobody, least of all Roy.

She knows she isn’t innocent herself as she went along with Bobby’s deception. Could she also be facing arrest?

As far as Roy’s concerned, his solicitor Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) is worried to hear that Bobby’s statement was false, as a lot of Roy’s defence case is built on there being an alternative suspect – the man in the balaclava. She realises that he now has little defence left.

With Carla and Bobby looking at possible prison sentences themselves, could Roy be about to spend a long stretch in prison for the murder of Lauren Bolton? Or are there further twists in the story?
