Coronation Street spoilers: Exit story confirmed for Summer Spellman as she makes big decision

Summer tries to help as Paul begins using a walking aid in Corrie

Coronation Street’s Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) has to make a life-changing decision in upcoming scenes when she is given the opportunity to study in America.

Summer has had a turbulent last few years; she’s dealt with an eating disorder which led to a diabetes diagnosis, teenage pregnancy and subsequent kidnapping when she agreed to be a surrogate for churchgoers Mike and Esther Hargrave (Tom Lorcan and Vanessa Hehir) and she later deferred her studies when boyfriend Aaron Sandford (James Craven) raped her best friend Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney).

More recently, she has suffered fresh devastation when Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), who Summer considers to be a father figure, was given a heartbreaking motor neurone disease diagnosis.

Things finally seem to be looking up next week, when she is given an incredible offer to study in the States.

Happiness is short lived however when she confides in adoptive dad Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) that because of Paul’s terminal illness, she doesn’t feel it’s appropriate to move away.

Putting Summer’s potential move to the back of his mind, Billy pulls out all the stops for Paul on Valentine’s Day, knowing it could be their last together, organising a motorbike ride experience with a sidecar that they’d previously been unable to do last year.

Old romantic Billy also arranges for a Barbershop Quartet to perform in the bistro, but their perfect evening together is spoilt when an old schoolmate of Paul’s, who is in the restaurant on his stag do, tries to force him up to dance.

Billy sees red and lashes out at Paul’s old pal Benno, punching him and ruining their evening together.

Later in the week, when Paul learns of Summer’s trip of a lifetime, he urges her to leave Weatherfield as he doesn’t want his condition to hold her back.

But will she be able to recover from the guilt of leaving Paul and Billy behind?
