Coronation Street spoilers: Illness fears for Maria Connor increase as Gary Windass fears the worst

Gary and Maria discuss Liam's bullying while in the salon in Corrie

Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) is determined to keep an eye on son Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) in Coronation Street, but a worried Gary Windass (Mikey North) has to remind her of the importance in looking after herself as well.

Following the horrific bullying from Mason (Luca Toolan) and Dylan (Liam McCheyne), Liam started to research ways to end his life.

The internet history was discovered by a teacher at Weatherfield High School and then Maria and Gary.

Sadly, due to the fact this problem cannot be fixed overnight, it has now left Maria and Gary terrified about leaving Liam alone in case the suicidal feelings resurface.

Maria and Gary are horrified as they find Liam's search history on his computer in Corrie

Recently, during a visit to the surgery, Maria was told by Doctor Gaddas that Liam will be referred to a mental health unit but due to the waiting list being so long, she just has to keep an eye on him in the meantime.

Noticing how exhausted she is, Gary tells Maria that they need to come up with a better plan for Liam, because she’s in danger of making herself ill by watching him around the clock.

As they wait for professional help, can they develop a different idea?

‘Charlie’s just been incredible,’ Samia Longchambon told us. ‘He’s only 14. And it’s lovely, because he’s played Liam since he was three. So we do have a really close relationship, I’ve known him pretty much all his life, which makes those scenes easier and harder at the same time, because we do have an emotional connection to each other.’

‘It’s not a nice thing to think about, and having to act it and go through it’, she added.

‘Your body doesn’t know, when we’re making ourselves cry, and going through that, it is exhausting. Because your body doesn’t know that it’s not real, what you’re crying about.

‘So me and Charlie have had days where we’ve just been crying all day to each other. We’re exhausted at the end of the day.’
