Coronation Street spoilers – Sarah Platt’s devastation as a loved one’s final fate is revealed

Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien)’s dreams turned to dust in Coronation Street recently when Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths), the man she hoped she would be spending the rest of her life with, was arrested by armed police following a botched robbery.

Damon had only agreed to get involved in the robbery to protect Sarah and Bethany (Lucy Fallon) from Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor), Damon’s brother. Even though he’s in prison, Harvey had put Sarah and her daughter’s lives in danger when he got a hit-man to try to kill them.

Damon knew that the only way to keep them safe was for him to agree to his brother’s demands.

In court, Damon pleaded guilty. His solicitor Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) explained to Sarah that he did this for her, and he’d saved the life of the van driver in the robbery and sacrificed himself to keep Sarah and Bethany safe.

In light of this, Sarah went to visit Damon in prison and assured him that she loved him and was prepared to wait for him. She was shocked when Damon told her it was over between them because he’s a bad person who will never change.

In upcoming episodes the day of Damon’s sentencing arrives and Sarah’s struggling. She confides in Gary Windass (Mikey North), who has worries of his own as he’s concerned about Liam (Charlie Wrenshall) previously feeling suicidal over the bullying he endured.

The two go back to Gary’s flat and he continues to tell Sarah about what’s been going on with Liam, telling her that Maria (Samia Longchambon)’s overprotective approach to her son is threatening their relationship.

What they don’t realise is that Maria is watching all of this on a hidden camera that she’s set up to keep an eye on Liam.

Then Sarah gets a phone call from Dee-Dee – and it’s devastating news. Damon has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Sarah breaks down in tears and Gary takes her in his arms to comfort her – all the while watched by Maria…
