Coronation Street is set to air some devastating scenes which will see Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) say masked goodbyes to his family amid a heart-wrenching suicide ideation story.

Liam has been facing cruel bullying at the hands of Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) and Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) over the past few months, and things have got so bad that the youngster is set to start researching ways to take his own life.

After a confrontation with Mason and Dylan during which she tells them that Liam is having to change schools because of their relentless torment, Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) is surprised when Liam calls at the salon to tell her that he loves her and she is a good mum.

Later, Maria misses a call from the school, and Gary Windass (Mikey North) is called in to talk about the worrying search history on Liam’s returned laptop.

Maria and Gary are horrified as they find Liam's search history on his computer in Corrie

Horrified, Gary races back to the salon and informs Maria that Liam has been researching ways to end his life.

Maria is quick to remember her earlier conversation with her son, and rushes back to the flat in a desperate bid to find him.

Maria is left exhausted after spending the night watching over Liam while he sleeps, but wastes no time in booking him an urgent appointment with Dr Gaddas.

During the appointment, Liam bravely opens up to Dr Gaddas about how he’s been feeling, explaining that things had become so unbearable that he just wanted it all to stop.

Following their discussion, Dr Gaddas informs Maria that she is referring Liam to a mental health unit, but warns her that the waiting lists are incredibly long, so she will need to keep a close eye on him in the meantime.

Actress Samia Longchambon revealed that Maria is determined to protect Liam, and is terrified that history may repeat itself, following Aidan Connor’s death by suicide in 2018.

‘I think she kind of takes it to the nth degree, she won’t let Liam out of her sight. And she does get really paranoid, understandably, because it has been extremely close to home, you know, a family member has ended their life before.

‘So she’s absolutely, understandably horrified by it. And yeah, she won’t leave him alone once that happens.’
