Coronation Street star addresses if Fiz and Tyrone will break up over Alina return

Coronation Street legend Alan Halsall has spoken to Metro.co.uk about Tyrone’s anguish upon the return of ex-girlfriend Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu).

Gossip had spread around Weatherfield that Alina was back in the country after being called as a witness in a human trafficking trial.

In tonight’s episode, Tyrone’s wife Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) was shopping at Freshco when they came face to face, and it soon became clear she was hiding a huge secret… a son!

After overhearing her mention that she was staying at the Chariot Square Hotel, she followed Alina, who told her that she was returning to Romania tomorrow.

Finally coming clean to Tyrone, Fiz urged him to chase after Alina himself, but when he arrived, Debbie told him that she’d already checked out.

‘Alina coming back is a potential spanner in the works’ Alan told us.

‘I think at first he’s quite dismissive, doesn’t really want to get into the conversation. He just wants things the way they are with Fiz, and he’s really happy and settled, and he doesn’t want the distraction.’

He went on to reflect on the wider family’s reaction to Alina’s arrival: ‘Hope and Ruby could definitely give him a hard time! Cassie’s new on the scene and she might want to know the whole story about Alina. And, of course, Evelyn has an opinion about absolutely everything!’

‘So, Tyrone can get it from all angles, and I think he just wants an easy life, so the least said about this Alina situation the better, in his eyes!’

In upcoming scenes, Cassie decides to meddle in the situation, and when she clocks that Streetcars have taken Alina’s airport booking she decides to intercept the situation by driving her to No. 9 Coronation Street instead.

Alina’s furious that she’s been duped, but how will Fiz feel, having the woman who destroyed her long-term relationship back in her home?

‘As an actor, I’d like to think that now Tyrone and Fiz are together and finally married and they’ve got this lovely family, this multigenerational family, I’d like to think they’re unbreakable’ Alan told us.

‘But I also live in the reality of this is soap, and therefore nothing is! So, we’ll see.’

He was also quick to shy away from being compared to the iconic Jack and Vera Duckworth (Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn), who took on a parental role in Tyrone’s life.

‘For me growing up, Jack and Vera were like Mr and Mrs Coronation Street’ he explained.

‘It was my era, they were my era. I loved everything about those two characters, and then was lucky enough to work with them for years, so that’s something that I like to shy away from.’

He continued: ‘There’s nothing wrong with being the Tyrone and Fiz! Jack and Vera were the first Jack and Vera, but I don’t think there’ll be another one.’
