Coronation Street star Calum Lill calls for Joel and Dee-Dee wedding
"I want to see them both happy."
Coronation Street‘s Calum Lill is keen to see his character Joel Deering tie the knot with girlfriend Dee-Dee Bailey.
In next week’s scenes on ITV, Joel’s shiftiness is blown wide open when Alya Nazir catches him in CCTV footage being confronted by a mystery woman. When Dee-Dee confronts him, he admits that he has a secret wife, Emily, and a daughter, Maisie.
With this potentially relationship-ending conundrum on their hands, Lill spoke to Digital Spy and other media about Joel’s next move.
“The thing I like about this, he’s done a wrong thing but I think, not the right reasons, he’s not meant to harm (Dee-Dee), he’s just meant to have a good relationship with her,” he said.
“He’s gonna have to grovel and explain himself but what I like about it is it’s not black and white, it’s kind of grey and in the middle, and I hope what the audience enjoys is watching two young people trying to navigate quite a realistic relationship.
“It’s not Prince Charming and they’re gonna sail off into the sunset, he’s got baggage and he’s made mistakes and he’s human. He’s not perfect.”
Asked whether he would like to see Joel and Dee-Dee one day walking down the aisle together, Lill said: “Yeah I would. I think Dee-Dee is an incredible character and a very proud woman and strong woman. He needs to do his grovelling, he absolutely needs to do his grovelling and he needs to make it up to her.
“But I want to see them both happy. I’d love to see a Dee-Dee and Joel wedding.”
