Coronation Street star confirms major return as she reunites with favourite in new snap
Coronation Street star Sair Khan has confirmed her return to the cobbles after giving birth earlier this year – and is already back on set.
The actress, who plays Alya Nazir on the ITV soap, welcomed her first child back in April. She first revealed she was pregnant with her partner Nathan Chilton back in December.
Announcing the birth of their son, she wrote on Instagram: ‘He’s here!
After going on maternity leave, her character’s temporary exit aired a month later.
Those scenes saw Alya head to Dublin to take on a new job after she decided not to pursue the romantic spark between her and boss Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).
Last month, Sair revealed that she is back at work with a post on her Instagram story.
Sharing a shot of her scripts, she wrote: ‘I’m Backstreet.’
Due to Corrie’s advance filming schedule, this means Sair’s return as Alya is likely to air in around six weeks time.
She was also on set yesterday partaking in a Coronation Street tradition – a full cast photo taken on set.
These pictures, which show each regular in costume as their respective character and joined by their beloved on-screen pets, are typically taken every 5-10 years.
Metro understands that the last time the group shot was taken was c. 2016 – so it was well overdue!
Sair’s co-star Channique Sterling-Brown shared an Instagram story of them both preparing for the snap, writing ‘Bailey and Nazir reunited for @coronationstreet picture day.’
Luca Toolan, Rob Mallard and Vinta Morgan could be seen smiling behind them.
Elsewhere, Cassie Plummer actress Claire Sweeney expressed her enthusiasm with Debbie Webster icon Sue Devaney, saying: ‘This is iconic. We’re going to do the cast photo and I woke up this morning and thought “I can’t believe I’m going to do a Corrie cast photo.”‘
Sue added: ‘This is amazing. It’s absolutely amazing. Everyone’s standing up there (on Rosamund Street) and we’re joining in.’
The two squeaked before Sue continued: ‘Even the doggies are here!’
