Returning Coronation Street star Jenny Platt has opened up about her character Violet Wilson’s response to Dylan’s bullying of Liam Connor.

Violet is set arrive back in Weatherfield next week, where she will learn about what her son has been doing for the first time, as both Dylan and dad Sean Tully have been keeping the truth from her about Dylan’s actions alongside his knife crime offence.

Jenny admitted to Digital Spy and other press that it would be “a really hard thing” for Violet to process, especially the fact that Dylan has become the bully after being a victim of bullying himself.

“Of course it’s so devastating to find out your own child is being bullied and I think that is being dealt with absolutely brilliantly at the moment on Coronation Street,” she said.

“It’s devastating, but I think in some ways it’s even more devastating to find out that your child is actually a perpetrator because you’re going to feel like you have done something wrong and you have failed somehow in their moral upbringing.”

“I think there’s going to be a lot of blame there,” Jenny added. “So I think that it’s something that would be incredibly hard as a mother to deal with, especially in the knowledge that you know what this is like, you know how it feels to be at the end of it.

“I think that’s going to be a tough one for Violet to get her head around, but especially as a parent because you love that child no matter what and you’re going to have to find a way through it to help them and hopefully bring them out the other side.”

As part of the storyline, Dylan has also been deceiving Sean with his lies, even lying that his mum is in Ibiza so she won’t be able to attend his court hearing.

However, Eileen reveals the truth to Violet after calling her, unaware that she is in the dark about what’s going on, the star admitting Violet’s not “going to be very happy about that at all”.

The turn of events will also “put a massive wedge between her and Sean”, Jenny suggesting that the trust between them has now evaporated, and that “Violet would want to get [Dylan] out of that situation”.

Jenny revealed that Sean will “bear the brunt of her anger” as she feels “it’s Sean’s job to have been parenting him properly”.

The actress also said Violet is “probably going to be quite angry with Sean for not being able to see through” Dylan’s deceit towards him too.

The star went on to suggest that there is a bit of bad cop/good cop with Violet and Sean, saying: “Violet definitely is going to feel that it is all too easy to just play the role of being a friend but actually when it comes down to it, the hard bit of parenting is having to have those difficult conversations.

“I think that’s another reason that she’s going to be so angry that he didn’t talk to her – why is he just taking the kid’s word for it that, ‘Oh yeah, mum’s not around, she’s not interested’.

“Why would you take a teenager’s word about that? Just ask me, talk to me. Me and Sean go way back, we’ve known each other for years and years, even before we had a baby together, so it’s, ‘Why on earth didn’t you get in contact with me?’”
