Coronation Street star Paddy Bever hints at double killer twist as Joel’s murderer ‘revealed’

Joel's killer has been exposed this Wednesday as troublemaker Max turned himself in to the police. But more twists and turns are ahead, according to actor Paddy Bever.

Max Turner was revealed to have killed Joel - but is there more to the crime?

Paddy Bever has warned Coronation Street viewers that there may be more to Joel’s murder as his on-screen alter ego Max Turner turned himself in to the authorities for the crime.

After rekindling his relationship with Lauren Bolton on the ITV, the troublemaker has remained a consistent source of support for the young mother, taking the well-being of her son Frankie to heart. This Wednesday (November 13, 2024), however, the extent of Max’s love for the pair was revealed as he confessed to killing Joel Deering.

In a surprising twist aired on Coronation Street, Max initially tricked Lauren (Cait Fitton) into running away with him and, after urging her to get baby supplies, did a runner of his own as he showed to the police station, ready to make his confession.

Max explained that, on the night of September 27, he and Joel (Calum Lill) wound up on a suspension railway above the canal, the end of a long series of events all leading up to his death. In a final confrontation, Max hit Joel over the head before pushing him off the track and into the canal, where he was eventually found.

Paddy Bever has shared that Max is desperate to keep Lauren and Frankie happy - could he be taking the fall for a crime he didn't commit?

But while the murder investigation may have reached a conclusion, actor Paddy Bever has explained there could be more to Max’s actions, particularly as he underlined how desperate his Corrie character was to protect both Lauren and Frankie.

“Max really is willing to lose everything, quite simply to protect Lauren and Frankie. I realised during the filming of these episodes, and tonight’s one in particular, that Frankie in relation to Max is exactly the same as Max in relation to David, in that he’s in a relationship with his mum”, he shared.

“It’s an adoptive relationship and Max is willing to do anything for Frankie to be able to stay with his mum, especially since Max wasn’t able to stay with Kylie, so he will do everything he can in his power to keep them together and give Frankie the life that Max always would have wanted.”

But when asked about his reaction to the big reveal and how difficult it had been for him to keep the secret, he said: “People have been constantly asking me and commenting on my Instagram things like ‘who killed Joel?’ or ‘we know it was you!'”

“A lot of people also seem to think that Joel’s still alive and has faked his own death, so it’s good that we don’t have to actually hide it anymore.” He then added: “The storyline is really complex, it’s not just a cold blooded murder, there’s lots of people involved and who have done shady things, so I think that’s what’s great about it because the blame doesn’t solely lie on one person.”

While he then insisted that the full truth will be uncovered on Friday, November 15, ahead of an explosive live episode and the killer’s reaction to being caught, he also promised another shake-up.

“On Friday’s episode, you’ll be able to see what happens on the night Joel died, so you will see it from the beginning to the end, get the full picture and everything will be made clear. And of course, it’s Coronation Street, so there’s bound to be a few twists and turns.” Could it mean that another killer is on the loose?
