Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has opened up about her struggles with anxiety.

The Maria Windass actress, 41, shared a picture of her hands on Instagram alongside the caption: ‘I always pick my fingers until they hurt when I’m overthinking.

‘I do it without realising… When my fingers look like this I know I need to slow my thoughts down… #anxiety ‘honesttruth #monkeymind.’

This isn’t the first time the soap star has opened up about managing her anxiety.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly in 2022, Samia revealed she has had cognitive behavioral therapy over the years, and that it has worked for her.

‘Last year I did a course in it myself, I got a diploma in it, just a foundation diploma so I could take it a lot further, but I just thought it would be fun to learn from the therapist’s angle how it all works, and go behind-the-scenes of the therapy in a way, and try and help myself with it as well,’ Samia explained.

She continued: ‘It’s great, it just gives you a different way of looking at things, whereas normally you might catastrophize them, I certainly do anyway, just go from like nought to 100.

‘It gives you a different way to deal with it and to slow your thoughts down a little bit.’

Over on the cobbles Samia’s character Maria has installed a secret camera on the bookshelf in her Victoria Court apartment to help combat her fears for son Liam (Charlie Wrenshall).

The teen is currently being homeschooled after his parents discovered he was contemplating suicide.

His dark thoughts had been triggered after a tirade of abuse from Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) and Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne).

The camera has proved to be more of a hindrance than a help, as last week Maria ran out on a bridal party at the salon to check in on him.

Liam recently announced that he’s ready to head back to school, but Maria refuses to listen to his plea and ends up in a row with Gary when she implies he doesn’t have an input as he isn’t his real son.
