Coronation Street star Sydney Martin shares tragic person connection after recent death in the show

Coronation Street’s Sydney Martin has expressed love for her co-stars as she revealed her own very personal connection to one of the storylines.

Actress Sydney, 22, recently made her debut as Betsy Swain, the young and feisty daughter of Detective Sergeant Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

This week on Corrie has been emotional as Monday’s episode brought an end to this chapter of Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) motor neurone disease journey, after his diagnosis almost 18 months ago.

We’ve seen his condition steadily grow worse during that time, first losing his mobility, and later struggling to speak.

In recent weeks, he’s had to rely on a ventilator when struggling to breathe. During Friday’s episode, he made brother Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) promise not to tell their mum Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) about a particular health episode, for fears she would stop Billy from enjoying a much-needed night out with the lads.

Sharing a picture of castmates Peter , Daniel Brocklebank, Dolly-Rose Campbell, Harriet Bibby and Jane Hazlegrove on Instagram Story, the actress penned: ‘These guys deserve so much love and praise for the whole MND storyline.’

Adding a couple of personal family photos to the post, Sydney continued:” My nanna had MND. Being 14 when she was diagnosed was really tough. There was not a whole lot of information easily available but @coronationstreet has provided a platform for people to learn and understand and handled it so delicately. The best team.’

Elsewhere, Sydney’s onscreen character Betsy’s troublesome behaviour recently saw her blackmail Carla Connor (Alison King), who put a young boy in hospital after hitting him with her car door. Betsy told Carla that she’ll keep quiet and stop her going to prison if she gave her a summer job in return – and it worked

Coming up, Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) deals with the aftermath of her early labour as her little boy lies in an incubator.

She’s interrupted, unfortunately, due to the arrival of Swain, who is intent on asking Lauren some questions.

Meanwhile, Betsy reminds Joel how he threw her out of his car in the middle of a rough estate and he owes her, which leaves him seething.

When Betsy heads back to Weatherfield, new mate Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) updates her on his new job at Speed Daal. He tells Betsy that he’s prepared for trouble and later, she stirs the pot by telling Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) he’d better not mess with Mason as working in a restaurant will mean he has access to sharp knives.
