The stars of Coronation Street joined to give their verdict over Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) jail storyline.

The legendary cafe owner, as viewers know, has been jailed for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), who vanished without a trace a number of months ago, leading detectives to believe that she was killed.

Roy was put in the frame by Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll), who reported his suspicions about the upstanding cobbles resident to the police, with DS Swain (Vicky Myers) subsequently arresting him.

With his name now in the public domain, Roy has been subjected to serious amounts of abuse online, with a number of internet sleuths taking it upon themselves to try and solve the crime – targeting the cafe owner with vile social media attacks.

During Tuesday’s GMB Corrie stars including Colson Smith (Craig Tinker) and Alison King (Carla Connor)shared how their characters could help Roy.

‘I think that Craig can be Roy’s friend in high power and just give the residents the information that they need on what’s going on from a police point of view,’ said Colson.

Alison added: ‘I want to get to the bottom of it obviously, Roy doesn’t belong in there and I’m gutted he didn’t get bail last night.’

Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe) joked: ‘ I know it’s not a nice place. The nicest man on Coronation Street goes to prison and it just can’t happen.’

During yesterday’s [April 15] episode Roy seemed to admit defeat when he sent a letter to his niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher).

In court, solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) tried her hardest to defend him and grant bail, though was unable to.

Nina and Carla Connor (Alison King) broke down in tears and lashed out at her, unable to contain their emotions.

Back at the Rovers Return, Joel Deering (Calum Lill) tried to comfort Dee-Dee, who felt she had failed him and hurt his family.

After an apology, she urged them to stay at the café as it was likely that technophobe Roy would only know the landline number to reach out to them.

As Nina raced across the cobbles to answer the phone, it proved too late, and Carla told her nephew Bobby that he’d been locked up with no opportunity for bail.
