Coronation Street team-up ‘confirmed’ as Joel Deering finds unlikely ally ahead of exit

Joel Deering was exposed on this Monday's Corrie

Soap fans are growing convinced that Joel Deering may have found an unlikely ally in Kit Green.

Former Hollyoaks star Jacob Roberts took on the new role earlier this year and the character was confirmed to be the son of well-established Coronation Street troublemaker Bernie Winter. But during this Monday’s (August 19, 2024) instalment of the ITV soap, he became more involved in Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) grisly world as the duty solicitor tried to stay one step ahead of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).

Viewers recently learned that Joel was behind the wayward teen’s disappearance after he abandoned her and left her for dead. The plot thickened when Lauren returned to Weatherfield, confirming she was pregnant with Joel’s baby – a hefty amount of proof against Joel who later tried to kill the unborn child by drugging Lauren.

The vile plan backfired, causing Lauren to go into premature labour, with the baby miraculously surviving. This Monday, as Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) discovered the whole truth about Joel by grilling Lauren, the pair of women found out his whole plot to kill his son Frankie.

Though she was in shock, Dee-Dee helped Lauren face the authorities as she encouraged her to finally break her silence and expose Joel to DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), unaware that Joel had also decided to strike back, having eavesdropped on his fiancée’s conversation with Lauren.

In a shocking turn of events, Joel claimed to Kit Green in another interview room that Lauren had taken abortion pills out of her own will, while an enraged Lauren was held back from lashing out at him by both Dee-Dee and DS Swain, who’d tried to place the solicitor under arrest moments prior.

Following this Monday’s trip to the cobbles, many viewers believe Kit might assist Joel in evading charges. One viewer speculated on X, otherwise known as Twitter: “I’d forgotten that Kit falsified evidence. Why? He’s an odd one.” Another pointed out: “Kit is a dirty cop. Of course, he believes Joel #Corrie.”

“Kit is gonna be on his side cos otherwise he will be in trouble with planting evidence to get Nathan sent down #corrie,” another added. But in another series of comments, multiple viewers of the Manchester-based drama were concerned for Dee-Dee’s fate as she finally put two and two together, turning her back on her fiancé.

“Our Dee Dee uncovering the truth, being whacked over the head by Joel, kept captive in a flat for a few weeks, be almost killed just to escape/be rescued by Swain looms”, the TV fan wrote.

Another added: “People thought DeeDee was gonna be distraught when the truth about Joel was gonna come out, but it looks like she’ll be the one to take him down”, while another concerned viewer of the Manchester-based programme chipped in: “Oh dear Dee-Dee watch out love.”

One fan then commented as they warned: “You better not touch either Dee-Dee or Lauren, Joel”, while another chimed in: “Run Dee-Dee, Run!” A pessimistic viewer wrote: “Dee-Dee is putting herself at serious risk with her cleverness tonight – not from Joel, but the writers. They can’t afford to have someone this smart living on Coronation Street.”
