Coronation Street to air ‘interesting’ DS Swain twist as dramatic new character teased

Coronation Street's DS Lisa Swain will be getting an exciting new storyline on the cobbles next week actress Vicky Myers teased an "interesting" twist for the police officer

Coronation Street is gearing up to air an “interesting” DS Lisa Swain storyline away from the police station.

Only recently, the detective (played by Vicky Myers) returned to the cobbles and it didn’t take long before she became a Weatherfield regular as she continues to investigate missing teenager Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton). So far, suspicion has fallen on both Daniel Osborne (Rob Mallard) and Roy Cropper (Dennis Nielson) , with the latter being wrongfully arrested despite his innocence.

Now that the blonde bombshell has become a soap regular, viewers will get a deeper insight into the real Lisa away from her job, which could potentially introduce a host of new characters onto the cobbles. Now, the actress has teased that viewers will be introduced to her teenager daughter in upcoming scenes.

Speaking to TV Times, the soap star hinted: “[Swain is] a single mum and a lot of people can relate to that. We’re in the process of casting her 16-year-old daughter, and I think it’s fair to say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Coronation Street set to air "interesting" storyline for DS Swain

“She’s feisty, opinionated and educated. It’s going to be interesting watching Swain juggling her professional and personal lives. Also, we know she’s gay, so is there another mother and, if so, is she involved?”

It comes after Vicky spoke about her return to the soap as a regular character earlier this year. Speaking to Daily Star and other press, she teased that someone on the cobbles will catch her character’s eye in a potential romance storyline.

The soap star gave a brief rundown of her character DS Swain, stating: “I think for Swain, she perhaps has seen somebody that has caught her eye but at the moment she’s far too busy on focusing on this investigation, career and being a single mum.”

Vicky revealed that she was initially signed up for eight episodes on the cobbles. She admitted she is thrilled to now be a regular on the soap, something she “never expected” and considers a “massive opportunity”.

Discussing her future on the show, Vicky said: “It’s looking good so far! We’re only just scratching the surface with Swain! “. So far, Roy has been the prime suspect in the disappearance and presumed death of Lauren.

Next week, viewers will see Roy charged after DS Swain becomes convinced he’s the only one who could be responsible. And the drama doesn’t end there after one familiar face returns to the street.

With the café owner behind bars, DS Swain continues to point the finger at Daniel Osbourne. When his girlfriend Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) reads an article online suggesting that Lauren was working as an escort, the teacher soon gives Nicky Wheatley (Kimberley Hart-Simpson) a call.

In the prescient, Daniel meets up with Nicky and her friend Deena. Will his former flame be able to help him plead his innocence or will she do more harm than good? Viewers will have to stay tuned to find out.
