Coronation Street’s Chesney Winter-Brown, portrayed by Sam Aston, has always had a tough time making ends meet for his growing family. Recently, he was devastated when an inspector declared his kebab shop must close until manager Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) rectified the situation. While Dev’s other business ventures in Weatherfield mean this loss of income won’t hit him hard, it’s been a devastating blow for Chesney, who doesn’t have much money saved up. This distressing scene reminded viewers that Chesney had shared his dream with partner Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) earlier this year of owning his own burger joint named ChesBurger, reports OK!.

One Reddit user pointed out that Chesney had previously mentioned the idea of making gourmet burgers as a way to earn more money for his family on the soap, but this hasn’t been brought up since. They added: “It would be nice to have a bit of a change of pace for him and Gemma rather than the same, ‘We can’t afford it, but we’ll manage,’ story over and over again.”

Fans rushed to the comments section to express their disappointment that this storyline never materialised, with one commenting: “Chesney was always very entrepreneurial, remember when he had a stall at the market selling dog collars etc? It’s a shame they’ve taken this route of ongoing misery with money. I’d love to see him and Gemma catch a break.”

Coronation Street viewers have been expressing their frustrations over the character development in Weatherfield. One viewer commented, “I think Corrie writers don’t like the characters to have any ambitions, so they keep them in their defined boxes.”

Another fan chimed in: “I think this was a bit longer than a few months ago, but I remember the scenes. I guess it was another plot that the scriptwriters abandoned.”

Coronation Street fans think they've figured out a solution to Chesney Brown and Gemma Winter's money woes

Somebody else voiced their exasperation, saying: “That’s what I don’t like! Wouldn’t it be great if Chezburgers took off? ! ” Echoing the sentiment, another added, “It just seems really pointless if they’re not going to follow through with it. It would have been something a bit different rather than the usual struggling financial storyline that’s been going on for years.”

One more suggested that bringing back an old dynamic could spice things up: “Ches and Kirk were always a good double act. It would be good if they could come up with some kind of business that makes a success.”

Fans are left wondering whether producers will pick up the slack on these storylines or let them fall by the wayside on the ITV soap.
