Coronation Street fans are speculating that a wedding might be in the pipeline for Carla Connor – but it’s not Lisa Swain she’ll be tying the knot with.
Viewers will remember that Carla (played by Alison King) was left devastated at the beginning of 2024 when her marriage to Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) ended as he departed from the cobbles.
Since then, Carla has developed feelings for DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), whom she became close to during the Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) investigation. Carla also hired soap newcomer and Lisa’s daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) at the Underworld factory.
Carla and Lisa have won over the audience, and after months of playing coy, they solidified their relationship over the festive period. However, recent events on the cobbles have taken a dramatic turn.
In addition to Carla fighting sepsis and requiring a new kidney, her murderous brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) has made a comeback to stir up some chaos. Moreover, police officer Lisa is currently dealing with the murder of her daughter Betsy’s boyfriend Mason (Luca Toolan), reports Lancs Live.
Despite all the current turmoil, fans can’t shake off the feeling that a surprise wedding twist involving Carla and Lisa is imminent. Previously, viewers have noticed ‘hints’ they believe the soap has subtly placed, including a wedding magazine featuring the words ‘I do’ and confetti being thrown on them.
During Wednesday’s episode (January 15), eagle-eyed fans picked up on a hint that sparked wild speculation. In the show, Lisa swung by the hospital to check on Carla, where Bobby showed up soon after and handed Carla a bunch of flowers, which she then handed over to Lisa.
On X, a viewer suggested: “Lisa holding a bouquet of flowers another wedding foreshadowing perhaps,” followed by a snap of Lisa with the blooms. Another fan predicted: “I think #Swarla will be moving in together and wedding rings before the end of the year. That’s my thoughts.”
Then, one eagle-eyed audience member compiled all the ‘hints’ and wrote; “Mary throwing confetti straight at Swarla, ‘you better not leave me hanging next New Year’s Eve’, ‘Ok Mrs’. Bobby reading a magazine with I do and rings. The foreshadowing is shadowing.”
Elsewhere, chatter on a Corrie fan page on Facebook ran rampant with predictions of a potential Carla and Lisa wedding. But some fans are rooting for a different outcome. One commented: “I’m still hoping Peter comes back and they get married anyone else? ” quickly prompting agreement from another, “Yep me too!”
