Coronation Street fans have been picking up a vibe between DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Carla Connor (Alison King) in recent scenes, with the detective seemingly falling head over heels in love with the factory boss.

Over the past few episodes especially, DS Swain and Carla have been spending a lot of time together, with DS Swain having opened up about her family troubles following the death of her wife Becky two and a half years ago.

Following their heart to heart, both women ended up doing huge favours for each other, with DS Swain encouraging Roy Cropper (David Neilson) to forgive Carla, and Carla offering DS Swain’s daughter some work experience.

Unfortunately, the flirty banter these two have shared in recent scenes may not come to anything more than that, as actress Alison King revealed.

Speaking about what the future holds in terms of Carla’s love life, she revealed that another relationship is the last thing on Carla’s mind.

‘I don’t think she’s ready for another relationship at all and she’s definitely not got her eye on anybody,’ Alison explained. Consider us crushed.

‘I don’t think she’s thought twice about it. I think it’s the last thing on her mind.’

Consider us double crushed.

Carla recently brought her marriage to Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) to an end after a turbulent few years, with Peter leaving Weatherfield to take up a job on a yacht.

‘She kick started the year by making a huge decision to end her relationship with Peter for his sake but also for both their mental health which was a really adult decision,’ Alison said.

Since then, it has been a very busy year for her, with the arrival of nephew Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) and Roy’s imprisonment taking most of her attention.

‘I think she started the year off being very strong. Then of course Bobby came along and she dealt with that in a really positive way too. She was unsure like everybody would be because of the ramifications with him being Rob’s son but she took it on the chin and dealt with it, again in a really adult way.

‘After all the support she gave to Ryan, I think this maternal instinct has become a bit instilled and that has kicked in.

‘Obviously she’s devastated about what Roy’s going through but she’s doing what she can to help him. She’s in control of her life again, she’s fiery and she’s not taking any nonsense from anybody.’

While Carla is very much in her own lane, with Alison adamant that there isn’t a relationship on the cards, actress Vicky Myers previously revealed that DS Swain does have her eye on someone.

‘I think she perhaps has seen somebody that’s caught her eye but at the moment she’s far too busy with focusing on this investigation and her career and being a single mum and juggling her home life as well with her teenage daughter.’

When the investigation into Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) murder finally comes to an end, will Carla and DS Swain be able to give things a go, or is Swain set to have her heart broken?
