Coronation Street’s Bernie Winter comes face to face with long-lost son with horrifying twist

CORONATION Street’s Bernie Winter has finally come face to face with the son she gave up for adoption – with a horrifying twist tonight.

The cafe worker – who is played by actress Jane Hazlegrove in the ITV soap – revealed she had a secret third child last week as she opened up to Dev Alahan about trying to find him.

She originally tracked down a man with his adopted name hoping it was him but he denied being adopted and sent her packing.

Bernie ran into him repeatedly and he even tried to arrest her for being drunk.

Later she discovered that the final man on her list had died – and she assumed he was her son.

But in tonight’s episode, after Kit used his powers as a police detective to hurt Bernie, she went to confront him – and while she was there discovered the truth.

Kit’s colleagues surprised him with a birthday cake and Bernie realised that he had the same date of birth and name as her son.

Realising the truth, she wanted answers about why he would let her believe her son had died – but he snapped back that he’d been dead to her for years.

And he confronted her about how they had arranged to meet a decade ago but Bernie didn’t turn up.

The tense reunion ended with Kit telling her he had no intention of being her son – or having anything to do with her.

He told her: “I’ve been dead to you for 31 years. I gave you a chance ten years ago, do you remember?

“You contacted me, we arranged to meet and you never turned up. You abandoned me twice.”
