Joel Deering actor Calum Lill took to social media and revealed the moment his grandmother learned his Corrie character was responsible for supposedly killing Lauren Bolton.

Calum Lill’s grandmother was “disgusted” to find out his Coronation Street alter ego Joel Deering was Lauren Bolton’s killer all along.

After months of speculation, the mysterious solicitor was revealed to have bludgeoned the wayward teen, supposedly to death, although Lauren’s demise has yet to be confirmed as her body is nowhere to be found. The duty solicitor, who was introduced to the ITV soap as Dee-Dee Bailey’s new love interest, was shown hitting Lauren (played by Cait Fitton) over the head with a chair leg before it was revealed he was also controlling a vulnerable sex worker called Ellie.

The scenes were watched by shocked fans who had tried to rumble on Lauren’s killer for months. Meanwhile, Calum’s grandmother couldn’t believe her eyes as she confronted him over his character’s actions.

Joel Deering was shown bludgeoning Lauren Bolton in her flat - but has he really killed her?

Calum recently took to TikTok to reveal a video of his grandmother reacting to the shocking reveal Joel was a potential killer after having to keep the well-guarded secret for months. Sitting by his side on their couch, Calum’s grandmother can be seen peering over her shoulder as she watches Joel strike Lauren on her screen.

Shocked beyond belief, the speechless woman turned to Calum as she appeared to quip: “So you mean to tell me that my grandson’s a killer? You battered her? I can’t believe it.” Clearly shaken, she then walked away as the soap actor announced she was “leaving in disgust.”

Calum recently broke his own silence about the Joel twist, admitting he had had trouble keeping the secret for “over a year”, saying: “It was last May that I got sent the breakdown for Joel saying that he was a charming character who’s got a dark side.”

“When I got the screen test they said, ‘Okay, this is what Joel is going to be doing’. I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, like this is a really terrible person. And I’ve got to hide in plain sight for a year.’” He added: “I felt a huge weight of responsibility on my shoulders to do well and not give it away and not play some cliché, because the things Joel has done have happened to people in real life.”

Determined to prepare for his role, Calum went on to have “meetings with charities and did research” as he remembered: “I watched documentaries and read psychological papers to create as much truth as possible.”

“The thing that I kept in my mind was I would never want anyone who’d experienced anything like that to be watching something on screen that didn’t feel authentic and feel offended.” Back on the Manchester-based drama, Joel Deering is defending Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) who was framed for Lauren’s murder by newcomer Kit Green (Hollyoaks star Jacob Roberts) as he desperately tries to cover his tracks. But will he ever be caught up with the truth? What is he planning for Ellie?
