After Coronation Street’s latest announcement about the Joel Deering murder suspects, fans think they might know the real killer.
Corrie revealed Carla Connor as the latest character to be linked to the Joel whodunnit, but while some fans were expecting it others were sure it was a red herring. Just days after her pal and rumoured love interest DS Lisa Swain was revealed as a suspect, Carla was the latest to join the suspect wall.
But could her link to the crime in fact be a cover-up as opposed to her being the real killer? Some fans think so, convinced her involvement proves that someone else did the crime.
Not convinced Carla would have killed Joel, some fans believe her being on the list only suggests further that she could be covering for someone, or that someone linked to her did the crime. On Wednesday night fans will see Carla leaving the factory and spotting someone in the dark of the night.
It’s clear Carla has been lying about her whereabouts at the time Joel was killed, but could she be to blame? The spoiler for the big reveal does tease she might be protecting someone, so might she know who really murdered the villain last month?

Some viewers believe she could be covering for her nephew Bobby Crawford, and he might have been the one to attack Joel. Others are sure it’s DS Swain’s daughter Betsy who killed Joel after he threatened to kill her.
Carla has been something of a confidant to Betsy in recent months, amid her clashing with her mum. Carla has also been a shoulder to cry on for Lisa, helping both mum and daughter through a tough time.
But might Betsy have killed Joel and run to Carla for help? After all she couldn’t exactly run to Swain, given she’s a police detective, so might Carla be covering up Betsy’s crime?
One fan posted online: “It’s clearly gonna be DI Swain’s daughter.” Another wrote: “I think Betsy is involved in Joel’s murder.” Other fans were more convinced Swain killed Joel to protect Betsy, and this was how she got the bruises she’s been hiding.
Perhaps it was Carla though in a shocking turn of events. One fan said after she was named as a suspect: “If you say you’re shocked, you’re lying to yourself x,” as a second added: “Carla in her running shoes we love a prepared girlie.”
