Coronation Street’s Georgia Taylor reveals shock moment she was slapped by co-star
THE star wasn't given a stunt co-ordinator back in the 90s and just got slapped for real
CORONATION Street star Georgia Taylor reveals she was once slapped by her co-star Vicky Entwistle for real.
The actress – who plays Toyah Battersby in the ITV soap – has opened up about the shocking moment in the 90s that left her stunned.
Actress Georgia was playing a scene with her on-screen mum Janice Battersby star Vicky when the pair were required to have a fight on the cobbles.
The scene saw Janice slap Toyah, but far from today when you would have a stunt arranger and health and safety, back in the 90s the pair were just told to go for it.
Speaking to The Sun about her current storyline with Toyah having an affair with sister Leanne’s partner Nick Tilsley, Georgia was asked if she had ever had a full-on catfight with Leanne star Jane.
She said: “Not a physical one.
“We’ve had huge verbal ones that have gone on for pages and pages and pages, but I don’t think we have.
“Janice has hit me, and that bloody hurt! That was before we had stunt arrangers. They were like, ‘Oh just do it for real’. It was the 90s!”
The actress also spoke about Toyah’s shock affair with Nick and how it’s come about.
Asked if it was a shock, she said: “Yeah, absolutely. Because Toyah and Nick used to hate each other!
“Certainly when I was first in the show. And I think even in more recent years, they kind of tolerate each other rather than really get on.
“But I think when Toyah told Nick about Rose, and he was the first person that she told about it, he was so understanding, so gentle, so sympathetic, and cared for her in a way that I think Leanne didn’t.
“And I think what it did was it meant that Toyah saw Nick in a light that she’d never seen him in before. And that suddenly, and confusingly, became attractive to her.”
And she told how it will become a full-blown affair, especially with the bombshell that Toyah is pregnant with Nick’s child.
“It’s a soap, so I would hope so,” she laughed/
“I think there definitely – and certainly Ben [Price] and I, in conversations we’ve had with Iain [MacLeod], our exec, and also Verity [MacLeod] when she was producer, have really wanted to make this as much of an emotional affair than just sex.
“Because it’s really not just, ‘oh we can’t resist each other, we’ve got to tear each other’s clothes off’.
“We’ve all seen that a million times in soap, and that’s great fun to watch. But it has to be something deeper than that for it to be interesting.
“So Ben and I have really focused on trying to make it an emotional connection. But again, what that means is that potentially the stakes are a lot higher.”
And what could be higher than losing her sister?
