Coronation Street’s Jimmi Harkishin in canteen drama over ‘stolen’ toast incident

Coronation Street legend Jimmi Harkishin, who plays Dev Alahan, has been on the ITV soap for over 20 years and his character has been at the centre of a number of explosive storylines, including Maya Sharma's attempt to burn down his shop

Dev Alahan has been a character on the ITV soap for over 20 years

Corrie legend Jimmi Harkishin, better known as the beloved Dev Alahan, usually thrills fans with his charm and humour. However, a recent backstage mishap left one colleague less than impressed.

In the freshest episode of their On The Sofa podcast, the soaps favourites Jack Shepherd, Colson Smith and Ben Price spilled the tea on a tiff involving new script supervisor Thomas and actor Jimmi. They recounted how routine breakfast preparations in the canteen led to an unexpected encounter when Jimmi decided to help himself.

Setting the stage with caution, Jack recounted: “[Thomas] makes his breakfast in the canteen and he puts two pieces of bread in the toaster and he nips off to get his coffee and everything, and comes back. His toast pops out, he butters his toast and everything and he’s looking forward to it and he puts it to the side. He goes to put milk in his tea while it has been brewing. He comes back and his f*****g toast has gone. He looks up and sees f*****g Dev walking off with his toast, eating it.”

A mix of shock and ire, Thomas was reportedly left outraged, bellowing ‘The audacity! The audacity!’ as he tried to digest the bizarre turn of events.

Ben playfully attempted to view things from Jimmi’s perspective, quipping: “He (Dev) just thought ‘ooh there’s some toast there. I’ll have that! “.

Jimmi Harkishin, who first graced our screens in the early 1990s, has been a staple on Coronation Street since his debut as Dev Alahan on 10 November 1999. This makes him one of the longest-serving cast members on the iconic ITV soap.
