Nick Tilsley will be in a new proposal storyline on Coronation Street next week as he takes the next step in his relationship with Leanne Battersby.
The pair got back together after previously being married twice, and now Nick has decided it’s time to see if the third time will prove lucky.
As he begins to put his plan into action, he enlists the help of Toyah as they go shopping for an engagement ring, with Nick wanting to make sure the gift is perfect.
They eventually settle on a ring, which they admire as they return home, but their joy is short-lived as they discover that a drunk Simon has crashed Leanne’s car. Could Simon’s personal issues cause a problem for Nick and Leanne’s relationship?
The crash is the latest incident in a rough patch for Simon, who was recently relieved of his duties at the Underworld factory after repeated instances of bad attitude.
After a week of mishaps, Simon was eventually offered a job at the Bistro, but it remains to be seen whether he will manage to maintain employment during his struggles.
The storyline comes as Alex Bain is reportedly preparing to depart the soap after 15 years in the role, with his rumoured exit following the departure of his on-screen father, Chris Gascoyne.
Gascoyne, who had portrayed Peter for the last 23 years, revealed that bosses had left the possibility for a return, but was unsure when – or if – that would take place.
“I’ve not ruled [a return] out, it’s been such a part of my life,” he said. “I’ve grown up with so many people there but I need a rest and to look to do something different, I’m not getting any younger.”
