After being refused bail, Roy Cropper (David Neilson) is hopeful that new evidence will result in his freedom – but will he be able to face Carla Barlow (Alison King) after learning it was fabricated?

The legendary café owner has been charged with the apparent murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), a teenager who he employed in the months leading up to her disappearance.

Evidence was (sadly) stacked against him having cleaned her flat and disposed of crucial evidence and his naive behaviour being perceived as suspicious.

After being held in custody, solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) was left devastated after being unable to convince the judge to grant him bail.

Learning that he’d been locked up, Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll), who was the one to first raise an eyebrow to the icon, headed to the police station.

During a conversation with DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), he told her that he’d withheld some important information for fears that he would be targeted by Lauren’s kidnapper.

The story proved to be entirely false.

Swain seemed to believe that he’d seen an intruder in her flat on the day she vanished, and when Bobby went home he told his Aunt Carla what he’d confessed.

Gobsmacked that he’d brought her in on his lie, she contemplated whether perverting the course of justice was the right thing to do.

In upcoming episodes, Roy will confide in a prison officer that the new evidence could lead to his release – and is feeling hopeful for the first time in months.

In court, Dee-Dee makes another case for his bail application and describes how the ‘man’ that Bobby saw in Lauren’s flat didn’t match the description of their prime suspect – but the judge refuses it.

Back in the cells, she visits him and tells him that the police are planning a reconstruction video that could lead to new witnesses coming forward.

Roy contacts Carla and asks her to come and speak with him about Bobby’s statement.

Has he realised what she and her nephew have done?
