Corrie Bethany’s hidden agenda ‘exposed’ — and mum Sarah ‘will never speak to her again’
Coronation Street's Bethany made a surprise return to the cobbles this week but fans have worked out the real reason for her coming back - and it’s bad news for mum Sarah
Coronation Street fans reckon they have rumbled the real reason Bethany Platt has returned to the cobbles.
The character, played by Lucy Fallon, was a regular on the soap for five years, making her debut in 2015. However, in January 2020, she dramatically quit – leaving fans gutted.
At the time, she left in a bid to pursue other opportunities. But now, three years since she said her goodbyes, Lucy has headed back.

During Sunday’s episode (December 31), Bethany set foot back on the famous cobbles and ended up sleeping with ex-Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard). And in Monday’s episode (January 1) things took a rather suspicious turn.
Near the end of the programme, Bethany sneakily called an unknown person – who then hung up on her. Now, viewers are certain Bethany’s return ties in with the return of bad boy Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) too.
Fans will recall how the villain, who got Bethany’s mum Sarah (Tina O’Brien) pregnant, was last seen on the Cobbles a few months back. However he also returned in Monday’s episode (January 1).
On X, formerly known as Twitter, fans have shared their theories that the two are in cahoots. One person said: “Think things are going to get more interesting as it looks like Bethany has a hidden agenda.” Another penned: “Who was Bethany on the phone to?, Damon?, a different fella?, maybe even a girl?”
A third mused: “What’s the betting Damon tries to get it on with Bethany to get back at Sarah?” A fourth quipped: “Bethany and Damon maybe? There’s no way Sarah would be ok with that. She would never speak to Bethany again.”
Someone else added: “Mark my words Bethany and Damon are dating and she’s pregnant with Damon’s baby.” A sixth penned: “The fact that Bethany was first to mention Damon. Then he appears a few seconds later right in front of Sarah. They are definitely together I can feel it.”
Asked why he’s back, Ciaran Griffiths – who plays Damon previously said: “He’s definitely obsessed with trying to get Sarah back, he’s proper smitten, he’s clearly been thinking about her every day for the last few months and wants to scratch that itch.
“But the injustice of what Adam did to him is something he has to put right. Damon was forced to vanish without being able to say a proper goodbye to Sarah.”
Elsewhere, Lucy shared her excitement at being back. Speaking about making a return to the soap, she said: “The best decision I’ve ever made, going back. It’s just the best place to work and some of my best friends work on that show, so I’m just so happy.”
