Corrie Billy’s downfall ‘confirmed’ after Paul death as actor ‘reveals’ heartbreaking twist

EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street's Billy has been left devastated by the death of his husband Paul, but it appears that things are about to take a sinister turn for the popular character.

Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has hinted at a dark twist for his character Billy Mayhew, following the tragic demise of Paul Foreman.

Daniel, who has portrayed the much-loved vicar Billy since 2014, has won over fans with his performance. Over the years, he’s been embroiled in several major plotlines, ranging from drug addiction to even murder.

Recently, however, Billy has been at the centre of a heart-wrenching MND storyline. Fans will remember that Billy’s husband Paul (Peter Foreman) was diagnosed with MND late last year. In Monday’s emotional episode (September 9), viewers watched as Paul drew his last breath in gut-wrenching scenes.

Earlier in the episode, Billy left Paul with his mother Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) and Summer (Harriet Bibby) while he searched for his phone. However, the situation took a dramatic turn when Paul found himself unable to breathe.

Bernie and Summer were thrown into panic and called an ambulance which quickly transported Paul to the hospital. Meanwhile, Billy remained oblivious as no one could reach him.

However, after finally setting up his new phone, Billy discovered that Paul had been hospitalised and was on his deathbed. In a desperate race against time, Billy dashed to the hospital – but, he arrived too late.

Paul tragically passed away with Summer, Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell), and Bernie by his side. In a heart-wrenching twist, when Billy reached out to Bernie, she ‘false’ly claimed that Paul was still alive, allowing him to say his final goodbyes, unaware that Paul had already passed.

Things could be taking a dark turn after Paul’s death

Now, in an interview with Daily Star and other media outlets, Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy, has hinted at more turmoil for his character, suggesting he could “go off the rails” once more.

When questioned about how he would react if he discovered Bernie’s lie about Paul hearing his message, Daniel responded: “I think it’s the only thing really that’s stopping him from tipping off the edge.”

“He feels terribly guilty that he wasn’t there, and it’s the only thing really holding him together,” he continued. Furthermore, Daniel hinted at another dark chapter for the vicar – who has previously struggled with drug addiction, including heroin.

When asked if he could derail again, Daniel replied: “Hopefully not to the heroin extent! He did go off the rails a little bit, but hopefully not to shooting up in the aisle of a church extent like we saw it before.” The actor added: “Billy’s good in a crisis if it’s not his crisis.”
