Corrie ‘work out’ what Joel’s mum and dad are hiding – and it’ll rock the cobbles
Coronation Street viewers are convinced they know what Joel Deering's parents are hiding, after they made a shock return to the cobbles
Coronation Street fans believe they’ve cracked the mystery surrounding Joel Deering’s parents.
Joel, played by Calum Lill, was written out of the soap in September after his horrific crimes were exposed. Viewers will remember his history of grooming and abusing young girls, including Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
Joel even tried to murder Lauren, who then disappeared for months, only to return pregnant with his child, Frankie. Joel’s ‘true’ nature was eventually uncovered, and his body was discovered in a local river at the end of September.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Joel had died before entering the water, sparking a thrilling murder mystery. Several residents became suspects, but it was ultimately revealed that Lauren was the killer.
Lauren has since been moved to a mother and baby unit in prison, where she remains with baby Frankie. However, during Wednesday’s episode (December 11), viewers were taken aback when Joel’s parents arrived on the scene, reports Lancs Live.
Gus (Chris Garner) and Anthea (Carol Royle) bumped into Max Turner (Paddy Bever), who is caring for Frankie. After discovering that Frankie is their grandson, Gus and Anthea asked Max if they could spend time with the baby.
Max consulted with Lauren and assured her he would supervise Joel’s parents’ visit with baby Frankie, to which she agreed. Later, Max informed Gus and Anthea that they could see Frankie.

However, things took a dramatic twist when as Max made his exit, Anthea turned to Gus saying: “Perhaps we should have been honest with him.” To which Gus answered back: “And lose any hope of seeing our grandchild? They’d never have agreed if they knew the truth. You know that as well as me.”
Now, Corrie loyalists are convinced they’ve cracked the code on what bombshell Joel’s parents are concealing, banking on a startling ‘back from the dead’ storyline reveal. Spiralling into speculation on a Coronation Street Facebook fan group, a user posted: “What secret are Joel mum and dad hiding? ? ” Down in the discussion trenches, fans are wagering bets that Joel might be very much alive with his folks in the loop.
One fan commented, plainly guessing: “Joel still alive? ” This was echoed by another, concurring with a simple: “Yes I thought that as well.” Joining the chorus, a third added: “I think so too! ” Even more intriguingly, someone else threw in a curveball theory about Joel possibly having an unknown twin brother, speculating: “Fiona Evans yes I think he has a twin who died!”
