Corrie icon Roy Cropper’s fate ‘confirmed’ as star drops behind-the-scenes hint

Coronation Street favourite Roy Cropper may not be returning to Weatherfield any time soon after actress Lucy Fallon has hinted that Roy shared a backstage secret

Coronation Street fans are biting their nails over Roy Cropper’s fate, and co-star Lucy Fallon has hinted he might be behind bars for some time yet.

The actress, who plays Bethany Platt on the ITV soap, sat down with Josie Gibson and Dermot O’Leary on This Morning to discuss the latest developments on the long-running show. The presenters grilled her about the ongoing drama surrounding Lauren Bolton’s mysterious disappearance.

The troubled teen, played by Cait Fitton, vanished from Weatherfield earlier this year, and now the police believe she was murdered after finding blood in her abandoned flat. The beloved stalwart, portrayed by David Neilson, was last seen with Lauren when he delivered her final pay check from Roy’s Rolls.

Unfortunately for him, that was evidence enough for DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) to put him behind bard, possibly for good. The mum-of-one couldn’t spill too much about the soap, but she did drop a bombshell about David Neilson’s look for his character’s prison stint.

One Coronation Street star has let slip Roy Cropper's grim future

“Poor Roy”, she said, sympathising with the iconic café owner, before revealing: “it’s really hard as well because I keep seeing David in the green room, he’s got this long beard that he’s grown because he’s in prison.”, reports the Mirror.

Although this could be a hint that Roy’s prison stint will last a longer than initially planned, fans are convinced he’s been wrongly convicted. Lucy reassured fans that the loveable character would hopefully “get the justice that he deserves”.

Fans have been demanding for justice for Roy as multiple characters in Weatherfield continue to fight for him to be released from prison and his name cleared of all charges. Everyone from his fellow employees like Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher), or his long-term friend Carla Connor (Alison King) and her nephew Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll).

Earlier this year, fans of the long-running drama shares their hopes that one Corrie legend would return to the show after 12 years away from the show to say Roy. But no comeback has reported to be in the works as of yet.

Meanwhile, loyal fans are scratching their heads over Lauren’s enigmatic ex, with fingers pointing at Joel Deering (Calum Lill) as the possible baddie. One eagle-eyed fan speculated on social media: “Somebody has Lauren tied to a radiator like in Black Snake Moan with Sam Jackson and Christina Ricci. I bet it’s Joel”.

Adding to the intrigue, Christopher Harper has reprised his role as villain Nathan Curtis which has stirred up more drama on the cobbles. Bethany Platt history with the sex offender has left her haunted by her past and now suspects Nathan might have targeted Lauren too.

Last week, Gary Windass (Mikey North) attacked Nathan, convinced of his guilt just as much as Bethany. But is Nathan really the villain here? And can Roy dodge the life sentence?
