Coronation Street actress Vicky Binns has a very different career since quitting the Cobbles.

Vicky played Molly Dobbs, the wife of Tyrone Dobbs, for five years before her tragic death in the 50th anniversary episode. Both Molly and fan favourite Ashley Peacock were killed in the dramatic tram crash.

Since her dramatic exit, Vicky continued with her acting until the pandemic shut down theatre shows. She had been hopeful of appearing in a theatre production in 2020, but with lockdown, the play didn’t go ahead.

Vicky later turned to primary school teaching during the pandemic. She told Scarborough News: “I have been an actress from a young age, playing regular roles in Emmerdale and Coronation Street (I’m yet to get that offer from EastEnders ). I’ve also worked extensively in theatre, but since lockdown I was teaching in primary schools, where I was told by a five-year-old that I looked better with my mask on! Keen to get back into the gentler world of show business, I jumped at the chance to come back to the theatre.”

At the time, Vicky described her exit as “explosive”, as she heaped praise on the soap for allowing her to leave “on such a high”.

Speaking at the time her departure was announced, she shared: “It’s been a joy to be involved in such a fantastic storyline and it is only right that it has the explosive ending viewers are waiting for. I am very excited about playing out the rest of this plot and indeed about what the future holds. I’ve had an amazing time in the show and feel it’s right to leave on such a high.”

At the time of her exit, Alan Halsall said he was “very sad” to see Vicky leave.

“I feel very sad actually. This is how it is in Coronation Street. Characters come in. They are loved by millions and they do leave as well. It will be a tough time for Tyrone – he lost his father and he’ll be losing his wife as well. But for me personally as an actor, I’ve spent five years working with Vicky, I will miss her an awful lot but I know she’ll go on and do great things anyway,” he said.
