Corrie’s Abi star reveals sex rule ‘in contract’ for X-rated scenes in racy show
Sally Carman is best known for playing Abi Franklin on Coronation Street - but before her cobbles debut she played a sex worker in a rather raunchy Channel 4 series
Coronation Street star Sally Carman had a sex rule in her contract for filming raunchy scenes in a previous show.
The actress plays Abi Franklin on the ITV soap – making her debut in 2017. And it’s fair to say she has quickly become a favourite with fans.
The character played a big part in several big storylines during her stint on the soap. From her drug addiction to the death of her son Seb, Abi’s time in Weatherfield has not been short of drama.
Over in Weatherfield recently, she has become the victim of a vile deepfake pork scandal. Prior to her Corrie debut though, Sally appeared in several TV shows.
She also famously played Kelly Maguire in one of the country’s most beloved TV series. From 2005 to 2013, Sally portrayed Kelly in Shameless, who was the sister of Kevin Ball and married to Shane Maguire.
As fans will recall, Kelly was a drug user as well as a sex worker. And the character often took part in several raunchy moments.
But according to actor Sally, she had a requirement when it came to filming the saucy sex scenes. So much so, that the blonde bombshell reportedly had it written in her contract.
Talking to The Sun in 2010, Sally revealed how she insisted on wearing three pairs of pants when shooting the raunchy moments. Sally said: “It’s pretty much in my contract.
“I have a three pairs rule. As long as I’ve got three on, I’m okay,” she added. Talking about her kinky and skimpy outfits on Shameless, Sally claimed: “I will put anything on, I really don’t care.”
After Shameless wrapped, it didn’t take long for Sally to bag a role on another beloved UK show. In 2018, she took on the role of drug addict Abi in Coronation Street.
But according to Sally she once said she is often typecast for roles as a prostitute or drug addict. However, Sally said it “doesn’t bother” her because they are often “the best parts”.
She revealed to The Sun: “I always go to TV interviews with my hair done, my make-up done and wearing really nice clothes and they go, ‘There we go, she’s the prostitute’, or ‘That’s the woman with the drug problem.
The actress said her Corrie character is described as having “dirty” and “greasy” hair for visually impaired viewers – but Sally says she washes her hair every day.
“I’m all right with it and I’ve done various different characters in theatre,” she explained. “I played a posh MP, I’ve done Shakespeare and for years my bread and butter was radio plays.”
