Corrie’s Bethany Platt set for ‘huge’ storyline twist as she returns to cobbles
Bethany Platt has been away from Weatherfield for some time, but after making her return last year, she is in for a massive storyline as she gets settled on the cobbles once again
Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt is in for a “huge” new storyline as she gets settled into Weatherfield life once again.
Bethany, who is played by Lucy Fallon on the ITV soap, has been away from the street for some time, but made her return to the show late last year. This was due to Fallon leaving for personal reasons, as well as welcoming her baby boy into the world.
The Mancunian actress, 28, once again hit the cobbles in October and now that she has made her return to the show, producers are keen to make Bethany a central character. As a result, Platt is set to get her biggest storyline so far according to Lucy.
Speaking to Inside Soap, Fallon described the plot as being “huge”, marking her big return to the show’s storylines after she left the show for three years from 2020 to 2023. She admitted that she was also “really excited” to see what happens for her TV persona.
“Bethany’s involved in the storyline surrounding Lauren’s disappearance, but there’s another huge plot coming up for her that we haven’t started filming,” Lucy revealed to the mag. Lucy’s plot was Lauren Boulton’s disappearance from her home in shocking scenes that aired for viewers last month.
Lauren, who is played by Cait Fitton, vanished without a trace after she had an unwelcome guest at her door. Since then, several people have been under suspicion for her disappearance, with officers arresting beloved café owner Roy Cropper on suspicion of her murder.
Bethany decided to leave Weatherfield behind in 2020 when she bagged a huge job offer to work in a fashion company in London. But before she left, she was at the centre of several other dramas including with ex-partner Daniel, who proposed to her with his late wife Sinead’s ring.
In devastating scenes that aired, she said a tearful goodbye to her lover Daniel, Bertie and her family as she left for her new life down south. During this time, actress Lucy had tried a number of new routes for her career, as well as to focus on herself and her baby.
However, she was eventually brought back as the pull of the show was just too strong for Lucy to fight. Speaking at her comeback last year, Corrie producer Iain Macleod said: “So Bethany’s back and we’re all fantastically excited to have her back, she’s incredibly well liked around the building, the viewers love her.
“She’s a slightly different proposition now from when we last saw her,” he added. “There’s been a number of years that have elapsed, she’s grown up quite a lot, she’s had the beginnings of a successful journalism career in London and she turns back up and is instantly a foe for Daisy.
“They’re very evenly matched now – Bethany might once have seemed like a younger woman or a girl, she’s very much more a woman now, more on Daisy’s level. So it’s a really heavyweight tussle between these two women, which I’m really looking forward to seeing more of.”
