Life changes forever for the Platts this week in Coronation Street as a fire completely destroys their home.

In recent weeks, David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) has become aware of Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) and his cronies putting his family in danger. This is happening because David stole some money from Harvey – and he now wants it back.

In a desperate move, David concluded the only way he could get a large sum of money was to set fire to his house.

And this week, someone throws a lit rag into the Platt home, causing the building to explode into flames.

Prior to the ordeal, David makes a call to Andy to arrange a time for their plan. Nick (Ben Price) then reminds David that it’s Sarah’s (Tina O’Brien) birthday party later, but he makes an excuse and says he won’t be attending, because he’s going to a client’s house.

As night falls, the community discover Number 8 is on fire and Shona (Julia Goulding) starts to fear Lily (Brooke Malonie) is inside. With that, Shona, Max (Paddy Bever) and Nick head in, but Nick finds Toyah (Georgia Taylor) on the floor.

Shona discovers that Lily is safe and finds David on the street. She reveals that Max is trapped but just as they prepare to return to the building, it explodes.

As the fire engine and ambulance arrive, Kit (Jacob Roberts) explains to the paramedic that Toyah has a head wound and has suffered smoke inhalation. Meanwhile, one of the firefighters comes across Max’s lifeless body and as they lift him into the ambulance, David climbs in with him.

In the aftermath, Andy visits the salon looking for David. Instead, he finds Sarah, who offers to pass on a message – but he scurries away.

Suspicious, Sarah and Nick later find David and angrily tell him about Andy’s visit, convinced he must’ve used him for his insurance scam expertise.

But will David tell them the truth?

Did he start the fire – only for his son to end up in hospital?
