Toyah told him how in 2001 when she was 19, she had given birth to a baby girl six months after being raped by Phil Simmonds.

Sadly, the baby wasn’t breathing and Toyah decided not to tell anyone, and buried the tot’s body on the Red Rec by a Rose bush.

Coronation Street fans have been up in arms about the controversial storyline ever since it was announced, and are even more furious now it is playing out on their screens.

One of the main issues for longtime fans of the show is that there is no evidence of her pregnancy or trauma from the time she claimed it happened.

One fan went back to episodes from 2001 and shared multiple videos featuring Toyah to highlight their point.

They wrote: “So we now know apparently six months on from Toyah’s assault in April 2001, she gave birth to a child and buried it. Or did she. Let’s revisit her scenes shall we?

“We begin with her appearance on 28th September 2001. Does it look like she’s about 23 weeks pregnant here?”

In the scenes, Toyah was excited to be heading on a date with Sam Kingston, and looked slim and happy as they chatted in the Rovers.

Another clip shows Toyah encouraging her mum Janice, and doesn’t appear to have any issues of her own.

The viewer tweeted: “Last bit from 12th October. Well I think we can safely assume as she’s able to focus on Janice’s issues that either she’s not had it or she’s a psychopath.”

Other clips were captioned that she had the “stomach of a supermodel” and that “our baby-burying heroine is positively chipper!”

They concluded: “Coronation Street writers have told us a few porkies in the past, but this one is provably false.

“I’m stunned such a huge retcon has made it to air, and I’m disappointed the actors involved appear to have not objected to it.

“If #Corrie want to treat its viewers like fools, they can expect a few less of them.

“This story is insulting, not to mention in poor taste. Complaints will come I’m sure of it, and they deserve every one of them.”

They weren’t alone in their thoughts, as another tweeted: “I get it’s a raw subject and that was a lovely scene with toyah and nick but HOW has this never been brought up in the past with toyahs IVF with Peter, Toyah couldn’t even have children etc. This storyline doesn’t make any sense.”

A third commented: “You’re trying to tell me Toyah has managed to conceal this information for 23 years, not a shed of grief whatsoever and in the last 2 eps she’s a grieving mother?”

Meanwhile a fourth added: “Corrie dangerously rewriting history here with Toyah just for the thrill factor of a new storyline.”

A fellow Corrie fan wrote: “Why are they only bringing this up now? Very bad taste.”

Another tweeted: “Ridiculous storyline! I’m turning over. Didn’t think the Corrie writers could get any worse.”
