Joel Deering (Calum Lill) took horrifying action against Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) in tonight’s Coronation Street when he drugged her with labour-inducing pills.

Lauren went missing earlier this year and was presumed dead after being brutally beaten by Joel, but she later reappeared with the news that she was pregnant with his child.

Knowing that the baby was proof that would link him to Lauren, Joel came up with a disgusting plan to get rid of it by drugging Lauren and forcing her into early labour.

In a terrifying move, he orchestrated a mugging which saw Lauren’s phone stolen, leaving her completely shaken.

Back at the flat, he made her a meal, crushing up the pills so she didn’t notice what she was ingesting.

After she’d eaten, he claimed he was going to get her a new phone, but actually locked her in the flat, where she soon went into labour.

Luckily, best friend Max Turner (Paddy Bever) managed to track her down thanks to an app on his phone, and soon the fire brigade were on hand to free her from the flat.

Later, in the Rovers, Joel overheard Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) taking a panicked phone call from Max, and was keen to know what it was about.

When Bobby explained that Lauren was in hospital, having gone into labour, both Joel and fiancé Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) headed over to offer their condolences, believing that she had had bad news.

However, Joel was in for a huge shock when he learnt that, despite being born at just 24 weeks, his son had survived, and was being looked after in special care unit.

With Joel’s plan having backfired, how far will he go to keep Lauren quiet about his actions?
