EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street spoilers confirm Joel exposed and residents in danger as Lauren returns
Coronation Street cast members have teased some of the biggest moments ahead in the Lauren Bolton storyline, with one villain finally facing his downfall as characters take action
Coronation Street is lining up more twists and turns in the fallout to the latest Lauren Bolton news on the ITV soap.
Lauren made a shock return to the show last week, months on from her going missing. We later learned she was attacked and presumedly killed by Joel Deering, but she was revealed to be alive in a recent episode.
Not only that but we found out she was five months pregnant with Joel’s baby, before she then fled again in a taxi after Joel tried to scare her off. With Lauren’s true fate set to be exposed, characters will begin looking for her and at some point, she heads back to Weatherfield.
But what is ahead in the storyline, and could Joel finally be brought to justice? Cast members Calum Lill, Cait Fitton and Channique Sterling-Brown spoke exclusively to The Mirror about the plot, and the twists and turns ahead…

Joel to get worse
The worst is yet to come with Joel it seems, with his behaviour set to get even darker. If we thought we’d seen the worst of him, from his attack on Lauren to his grooming of Ellie, actor Calum, who plays him, has revealed there’s more ahead that viewers will not like.
He said: “This is the most pressure he’s felt absolutely, [where he has] the most at stake [and] the most loose ends he’s not been able to sort out and tie off. “Every which way he looks there could be something that brings his whole world tumbling down around him.”
On the baby twist, he went on: “[It’s that] push and pull. When he heard boy or girl it humanised it, but there is still that side of him that puts self interest above all else. So who knows what direction it will take him in, I don’t think we have seen the worst of him yet.”
Dee-Dee Bailey actress Channique also had her say, telling us on if Joel would hurt Dee-Dee: “I actually don’t know. I think there might be an element of if I can’t have you then no one can, in his mentality. Whether that would put her in danger or not is yet to be seen.
“What’s in the dark always comes to light so we will have to see what happens with that, as currently it is all wedding bells. She is a tough girl and can read people, so I do think in the coming weeks we are gonna see a shift to their relationship.”
Lauren’s return
Lauren makes her return to the cobbles soon, as she visits Roy Cropper to apologise for not returning sooner. Roy had been charged with her murder before eventually being released, and in a recent episode he suffered a heart attack.
It’s not confirmed for sure if pregnant Lauren will be sticking around for good, while she does need somewhere to stay. But with Joel eager to get her away from Weatherfield, might Lauren be gone again soon?
Actress Cait teased Lauren could be back for good, revealing her hopes for Lauren to bring Joel down. She also said: “It’s gonna be very juicy going forward, that’s all I can say. So many more twist and turns to come, it wouldn’t be Coronation Street if it didn’t!”

Wedding and baby drama?
We know there’s a wedding on the cards for Joel and Dee-Dee, with him pinning down September for the big day. We now also know that Lauren is five months pregnant with Joel’s baby, with her due date likely to be around November time.
Joel is desperate for the wedding to happen, but this is soap land so might the truth about him come out before they make it down the aisle? Could the two twists collide and set the scene for some dramatic showdowns and revelations about Joel?
‘Catalyst of events’
Dee-Dee actress Channique teased a “catalyst of events” as Joel’s lies finally unravel. Teasing what was ahead for Joel and Dee-Dee following the huge Lauren twists, actress Channique told us the truth would come out, and that Dee-Dee would see Joel’s “true colours”.
She told us: “All I can tease is that ultimately, what is in the dark always comes to light. We will get to the point where Dee-Dee starts to have an understanding of Joel’s true colours. I think the audience is dying for her to know the truth… so I think once the truth comes out, we are gonna see a catalyst of events start to unravel.”
Joel’s downfall
Joel actor Calum teased the villain would stop at nothing to hide his dark secrets, and “get rid” of any “obstacles” that threatened to expose him. But it seems it won’t be enough, as residents grow suspicious and a downfall is likely on the way.
Calum told us: “I think desperate times mean desperate measures. What he wants is Dee-Dee, and to be married. He’s just fighting tooth and nail to get it, whatever obstacles come his way.
“Who knows what he is gonna do to get rid of them.” He went on: “I don’t know what Joel’s limit is and we’re yet to discover what Joel’s limit is.” Channique teased: “I think there’s gonna be a lot of detective work going on, detective Bethany and Dee-Dee.
“I do think over the next few weeks we are gonna learn more about Joel, and more about some of the crimes he’s committed basically. I think the characters in the show are gonna be key to revealing that.”
She went on: “Joel is a very good liar. I think he is treading water but he’s very good at it. I think really his time is gonna run out if Dee-Dee starts to see the cracks. That is the only person he can truly be challenged by.
“I think it’s quite an interesting dynamic, the person you love vs the person you have the most power over… I think there’s so many strong women who will take their time to stand up to him and it will be interesting to see what’s the tipping point.”
