EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street viewers ‘haven’t seen the worst of Joel’ ahead of downfall
Coronation Street's Joel Deering actor Calum Lill has revealed the worst is yet to come for the villain with viewers yet to discover how far he will go to hide his secrets
Coronation Street star Calum Lill has warned viewers the worst is yet to come for his villainous character Joel Deering.
He exclusively told The Mirror we have yet to see how far Joel will go to cover his secrets, with “worse” ahead amid a new twist. Months on from Joel seemingly attacking and killing Lauren Bolton, she turned up alive this week with the bombshell that she is pregnant with Joel’s baby.
The latest dramatic episode saw Joel and Lauren come face-to-face for the first time since he attacked her back in February, with her feared dead. Lauren’s return to the show will no doubt cause chaos for Joel as he battles to keep his secrets from fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey.
It seems the worst is still come for the character with how far he is prepared to go to stop the truth from coming out. Speaking about what’s ahead, actor Calum told us: “This is the most pressure he’s felt absolutely, [where he has] the most at stake [and] the most loose ends he’s not been able to sort out and tie off.

“Every which way he looks there could be something that brings his whole world tumbling down around him.” On the baby twist, he went on: “[It’s that] push and pull. When he heard boy or girl it humanised it, but there is still that side of him that puts self interest above all else.
“So who knows what direction it will take him in, I don’t think we have seen the worst of him yet.” Given his violent actions towards Lauren, could he end up hurting partner Dee-Dee if she ends up learning the truth about him?
He teased to us: “I don’t think in his head that will ever happen, because he is genuinely so in love with her, he’s besotted, but Joel is very selfish and is determined to do what he needs to to get his own way, and preserve his way of life. So maybe if he is pushed in a certain way… I don’t think so, but I don’t know what Joel’s limit is and we’re yet to discover what Joel’s limit is.”
