Fears for Roy Cropper in Coronation Street after unsettling news – but there is hope after all

Coronation Street legend Roy Cropper (David Neilson) has been refused bail in court – but there could be light at the end of the tunnel after a change in statement from Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll).

Roy has been in the frame for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) ever since she went missing in February.

Suspicions were first sparked when he accidentally disposed of key evidence when cleaning her flat.

After being targeted by cruel online trolls and far right extremists, an altercation with one bully pretending to be Lauren’s mum proved a step too far and during an altercation, she fell to the floor and hit her head.

DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) called him in for questioning, and he wasn’t released.

In tonight’s (15th April) episode, Roy seemed to admit defeat when he sent a letter to his niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher).

In court, solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) tried her hardest to defend him and grant bail, though was unable to.

Nina and Carla Connor (Alison King) broke down in tears and lashed out at her, unable to contain their emotions.

Back at the Rovers Return, Joel Deering (Calum Lill) tried to comfort Dee-Dee, who felt she had failed him and hurt his family.

After an apology, she urged them to stay at the café as it was likely that technophobe Roy would only know the landline number to reach out to them.

As Nina raced across the cobbles to answer the phone, it proved too late, and Carla told her nephew Bobby that he’d been locked up with no opportunity for bail.

With an immense sense of guilt for being suspicious of Roy from the outset, he headed to the police station and met with Swain to tell her that he wanted to change his statement.

Telling her that he was threatened by a masked intruder on the day Lauren went missing, she struggled to believe the story.

After confessing to Carla what he’d told the police, she fumed at Bobby for lying and potentially implicating both of them for perverting the course of justice.

But it was all in good spirit – he hoped that they would continue to search for the real culprit in Lauren’s disappearance.
