The outlet is replacing the co-op on Victoria Street where residents of the famous street have been shopping for six years.

Argos, which is owned by Sainsbury’s, initially entered into a sponsorship deal with the show back in 2021.

However, it was revealed earlier this year that the deal had been extended until 2026.

As part of the agreement, Sainsbury’s and Argos shopfronts are to appear on screen.

The big money agreement will also see other branding appear in Weatherfield, such as residents toting their Bag For Life as they do their grocery shopping.

After signing the deal, Sainsbury’s head of campaigns Laura Boothby said: “Coronation Street is one of the country’s most iconic TV shows which our customers know and love, so continuing our sponsorship made perfect sense.

“We hope the new store brings familiarness and fun to viewers watching from home and perhaps see Ken Barlow popping in to Click & Collect a new kettle!”

When the deal was first announced, fans of the soap were quick to share their reactions.

Taking to X, one wrote: “This’ll be quite the worry for Dev. How is he going to stay in business with a Sainsbury’s Local round the corner? #Corrie.”

As another added: “SAINSBURY’S?!!!? Goodness me I’ve not watched Corrie for YEARS.”

Meanwhile, aerial set pics in April showed the Co-Op store had disappeared from Weatherfield.

The exterior instead showed boards bearing the Argos and Sainsbury’s logo and ‘Coming Soon’ written beneath.

In 2018, a previous deal saw the additions of the Co-Op and a Costa Coffee branch to Victoria Street.

The partnership followed viewers spotting characters holding cups from the famous coffee chain.

After the Costa deal ended in 2021, the vacant space was later taken over by an EE phone shop.

This was followed by a branch of Hays Travel, a travel agents.

How will life in Weatherfield be impacted by the new Sainsbury’s store?

Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
