The future of Gail Platt appears to have already been ‘sealed’ as actress Helen Worth quit her role on Coronation Street.

TV icon Helen announced her shock departure after 50 years on the ITV soap. Bosses have already teased her exit will be “emotional” and is tipped to be a fitting departure for the soap legend. Helen will take part in a “major storyline” as she bids farewell to Gail at the end of this year.

Filming has yet begun for the storyline, but odds have already been revealed on Gail being killed off. Corrie bosses have remained tight-lipped on what the storyline will involved, yet bookies have already made it favourite Gail will be murdered. Oddsmakers at BettingSites have predicted she will be murdered with proven killer Joel Deering the favourite to be the murderer at 1/2.

They have got odds at 4/1 that Gail will marry for a seventh time before leaving the show, while a Corrie exit U-turn is on the table at 5/1 for veteran soap star. BettingSites spokesman Andy Newton said: “After five decades on the cobbles, it’s been announced that Gail Platt will leave Corrie later this year – which has prompted fans to speculate how she’ll be written out of the long-running soap. Including our betting traders, who make her just 1/3 to die and only a slightly bigger 2/5 to be murdered.

“So, if Platt is to be killed off – who will be the murderer? Our experts are pricing up proven killer Joel Deering, who has already bumped-off Lauren Bolton, as the big favourite at just 1/2 to be the one to send Gail into the Corrie wilderness. However, with 50 years on the show and six unsuccessful marriages, there are many other candidates that might want Gail dead – including son David, Nathan Curtis, who has a history tormenting her family – or don’t rule out ‘back-from-the dead’ (it’s been done before) Richard Hillman returning for revenge at 50/1 – now what a Corrie climax that would be.”

Other soap stars who could murder Gail are Max Turner at 8/1, Nick Tilsley at 14/1 and Martin Platt at 25/1. While Audrey Roberts has been given 1000/1. The bookies have also set odds at 7/1 that Helen will decide to return to the Cobbles within a year of her exit. Speaking of her decision to bow out, Helen said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in theworld.

“I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding. I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.” Gail is an iconic resident of Weatherfield, having been on the soap for so long. She has been involved in some huge storylines over the years, and has three children still on the Cobbles – including Nick Tilsley, Sarah Barlow and David Platt.
