Gail Platt’s final Coronation Street episode date – and it’s sooner than you think
Coronation Street fans have been told exactly when Gail Platt will be leaving the cobbles after actress Helen Worth announced she was quitting the ITV soap earlier this year
Coronation Street icon Gail Platt (Helen Worth) is set to say her goodbyes to Weatherfield in upcoming episodes of the ITV soap, after a remarkable five decades.
The 73-year-old actress announced her decision to depart from the long-standing drama back in June, describing it as the “perfect time” to exit.
After months of speculation surrounding Gail’s departure from the cobbles, the air date for the Platt matriarch’s final scenes has been disclosed – and viewers won’t have to wait much longer.
During Friday’s (November 15) special episode titled Coronation Street Live: Killer on the Cobbles, soap expert Sharon Marshall presented a one-off show following the revelation of Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) murderer during the latest trip to Weatherfield.
As Corrie producer Verity MacLeod discussed Joel’s dramatic exit storyline, Sharon couldn’t resist enquiring about Gail’s impending departure. Verity shared: “I was first person to know. We had video call and it was an incredible moment. I’ve been a soap viewer in forever and she’s an icon.”
“To be the first person to know was incredibly emotional. We’ll miss her terribly on and off-screen but we wish her the best and hope she enjoys her retirement.”, reports Lancs Live.
Sharon delved deeper, asking: “Any clues on her exit? Are you going to let her be happy? ” Verity hinted: “We might. It’s a soap. You’ve got to tune in on Christmas Day. It will be brilliant.”
The full scoop on her departure is still under wraps yet viewers have already seen Gail pop the question once more before bidding adieu to Weatherfield for good.
Jesse Chadwick (played by John Thomson) made a comeback to the street, following an off-screen escapade with Gail in Thailand. Having informed her nearest and dearest about their budding romance, Gail took the plunge and asked her fella to marry her.
Corrie’s top boss, Iain MacLeod previously dropped hints about Gail’s swansong, revealing: “Gail won’t die. It didn’t feel like killing her off would be right. Gail’s exit is a brilliant story. I thought, ‘What do the viewers want to see?”.
“Gail has had a hard life. She had a difficult childhood and disastrous marriages. So, we thought what viewers really want is a happy ending for her, so that’s what we’re doing.”
