George Shuttleworth destroyed by devastating funeral in Coronation Street – and things get even worse

George Shuttleworth’s (Tony Maudsley) day went from bad to worse in recent Coronation Street scenes, when a worrying letter ruined his chance of organising a profitable funeral.

In tonight’s (June 7) episode, George and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) were approached by the widow of a wealthy businessman, and they were sure that organising his funeral would be a big lift for the business.

As they sat down with the woman, things couldn’t have gone better, with George’s rendition of the company’s jingle winning her over entirely.

By the time she had left, Shuttleworth’s was on track to make a huge profit, even if they’d have to go out of their way to accomplish some of her requests.

Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) arrived with a letter containing the bad news that Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) still intended to sue George for half of his business and house.

Several weeks ago, Glenda was left horrified when she discovered that she was supposed to have been left a portion of the family business in their father’s will, but that George refused to honour it, as it wasn’t legally binding.

However, she has since sought legal advice, and is determined to get what she is owed in order to purchase Little Big Shotz.

Having read the letter, George was furious, and began ranting about how difficult it was dealing with the bereaved, especially when they had outlandish requests like their previous client.

Little did he know, she was standing behind him, and didn’t take well to hearing his real opinions about her ideas for her husband’s send off.

Having lost out on a huge profit, George headed to the Queen Vic to have it out with Glenda, who refused to back out of her decision.

As George struggled with what to do next, Todd pointed out that whatever happened, he was going to have to fork out an amount of money to Glenda.

Will George find a way to settle things with his sister, or are they set to end up going to war over the money?
