Heart-wrenching Coronation Street exit confirmed for Leanne in frightening cult outcome

Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) is becoming increasingly concerned for the safety of her sister Leanne (Jane Danson) in upcoming Coronation Street episodes, as Leanne is sucked deeper in the mysterious Altovalent Institute cult.

Since meeting Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper), a leading light of the group, Leanne has become obsessed by the organisation’s teachings.

Every good thing that happens in her life is now apparently thanks to her ‘reality coding’ practices as taught by Rowan and Leanne feels her life is better since she became involved with the Institute.

Meanwhile viewers have seen Rowan covertly recording a session in which he urged Leanne to open up about the bad things that have happened in her life.

This means he now has a record of her describing her past as a sex worker and the time she committed arson by burning down her restaurant in an insurance scam – information that he can use to blackmail or control her.

Toyah doesn’t know about this part, of course. She just knows she feels uneasy about the changes to her sister’s behaviour and her increasing reliance on the Institute.

This unease only increases when she discovers an online forum for former members of the cult who are discussing how the organisation isn’t to be trusted.

When challenged Rowan makes out that the forum is just the work of a bitter ex, and Leanne accepts his explanation. She’s flattered when he offers her a tour of the Institute.

On the tour Leanne meets a man called Jared who offers to help Simon (Alex Bain) set up his food delivery app. This rings alarm bells for Toyah, who fears that it’s another attempt to drag Simon into the cult along with Leanne.

Then Leanne announces she’s going on a retreat organised by the Institute.

Toyah is alarmed that going on the retreat will mean that the Institute will have all the time they need to completely get inside Leanne’s head and there’ll be nothing that she or Nick (Ben Price) can do about it.

She begs her sister not to go, but Leanne refuses to change her mind.

She leaves and doesn’t even say goodbye to Simon. For him it brings up the feelings of abandonment he had when his dad Peter (Chris Gascoyne) left

Weatherfield to go and work abroad and once again he reacts by going into self-destruct mode and drinking heavily.

And what about Leanne? Now she’s away from Weatherfield, will she be totally under the control of Rowan and the Institute? How much danger is she in?
