Coronation Street aired the heartbreaking death of Julie Carp during tonight's episode after she was seen visiting the lake with her sister Eileen Grimshaw
Coronation Street fans were left heartbroken after tonight’s episode of the ITV soap, which saw the tragic death of Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh).
Julie made her return to the soap earlier this year, and it was later revealed that she this year ahead of Eileen’s (Sue Cleaver) exit from the cobbles. However it was later revealed that she was terminally ill with cancer, and only had months to live. However, as Todd grew suspicious of Julie’s death, fans think they’ve worked out the ‘real cause’ of her death – as they suspect she overdosed in Eileen’s absence.
At the start of the episode, Julie was seen recording a video message to say her final goodbyes. “You know, some folks don’t really believe ‘the one’. Rubbish, because when you know, my God you know,” she could be heard saying, as the camera panned to Brian Packham. “It might take five years or five minutes, but when that penny drops, you realise what your life is for.”
Later on, Julie and Eileen headed down to the lake, and in heartbreaking scenes as Eileen headed off to get them some tea as per her sister’s request. However, when Eileen returned, she was left devastated to discover that Julie had sadly died.
As a devastated Eileen returned home, George confessed to finding Julie’s video filmed earlier today, which Eileen showed to her son, Todd.
However, Todd was left questioning whether Julie had took her own life, revealing he believed it was too coincidental for her to have recorded the videos on the day she died. He also questioned Julie wanting to go to the lake on the same day, and her passing while she had sent Eileen to get some tea. He then admitted that his auntie “hugged the life out of me” earlier in the day.
“It’s not almost like she knew mum,” Todd said. “I think she did know. I think Julie… took her own life today,” as Eileen was left stunned, holding Todd’s hand.
Fans agreed with Todd, as one penned on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Is Julie going to take Eileen’s tablets?! She’s definitely saying her final goodbye to the Street #corrie,” as another penned: “I think Julie has secretly overdosed behind Eileen’s back and Eileen will accidentally get blamed and she’ll either go to jail or go on the run to stay with Jason.”
Others were left heartbroken by the character’s death, with one writing: “oh Julie’s exit was heartbreaking,” as a second devastated fan wrote: “Great monologue from Julie at the start of tonight’s #Corrie but it’s Sue Cleaver who steals the show. Another great actress we’re going to lose.”
“Thanks @itvcorrie for making me a blubbering mess at this time in the morning on a bank holiday Monday,” said a third. “What an emotional episode.”
