Hope and Ruby’s cancer fears as Fiz Dobbs’ news terrifies them in Coronation Street

Hope and Ruby argue at the Dobbs household in Corrie

Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) got quite the shock this week in Coronation Street when she discovered that she was pregnant.

After several discussions with husband Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), the couple came to the conclusion that they weren’t in a position to raise another child, and decided to terminate the pregnancy.

However, things were complicated by the fact that Tyrone had told daughters Hope and Ruby (Isabella Flanagan and Billie Naylor) that Fiz was pregnant, leaving them excited to have a new brother or sister.

Because of this, Fiz and Tyrone were forced to tell Hope that they had made a mistake, and that Fiz wasn’t actually pregnant.

Unfortunately, Hope didn’t believe them, and confided in ex-boyfriend Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) that she thought they were hiding something.

Concerned, Sam recalled how Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) had believed she was pregnant, only to later discover that she had ovarian cancer.

Viewers will remember how Toyah had taken a pregnancy test which gave a positive result. However, after a scan, she discovered that there was no baby, and that ovarian cancer could give false positives.

This understandably left Hope terrified, and she and Ruby later begged Fiz for answers.

With the girls so worried, Fiz assured them that she didn’t have cancer, before opting to tell them the truth about the termination.

Hope and Ruby seemed disappointed but understanding, but Tyrone wasn’t sure that telling them everything was the right thing to do.

However, Fiz assured him that they knew more than he thought they did, and it was better to be honest with them. Was Fiz right?
